How Does GSP Work?

Healing through connection, learning, and shared experience.

Become a Certified GSP Counselor

Group Support Psychotherapy works through a structured eight-session model, each lasting about 90 minutes. The sessions are facilitated by trained lay health workers or counselors who guide participants through emotional sharing, psychoeducation, and practical skill-building.

The program is designed to move participants from understanding their emotions to developing resilience and self-reliance.

Each session focuses on:

  1. Emotional Expression: Creating a safe space for participants to share their personal experiences and feelings.

  2. Cognitive Restructuring: Helping participants identify and challenge harmful thought patterns.

  3. Skills Development: Teaching coping strategies, communication skills, and problem-solving techniques.

  4. Social Empowerment: Building group solidarity, empathy, and trust to reduce isolation and stigma.

  5. Economic Empowerment: Integrating livelihood and goal-setting activities to promote long-term wellbeing.

This combination of psychological healing and practical empowerment allows participants to not only recover from depression but also thrive in their daily lives.

Scientific Results:

  • 99% of GSP participants recovered from depression after 6 months.

  • ART adherence improved from 72% to 96%.

  • Viral suppression increased from 69% to 96%.
